MY DAUGHTER, THE CHEF

My daughter loves to cook, and she makes up a lot of her own recipes. Everything she cooks tastes incredibly delicious. Here are just a few of the savory dishes she’s prepared.

Now don’t they just make your mouth water?

From my heart ❤ to yours <3!

WHERE DID MY SENSE OF TASTE GO?

FOODI wrote a post recently about some of the changes our body goes through as we age.  Well, this post has to do with how aging affects our sense of taste because I feel as though someone is playing hide and seek with my taste buds.  I’ll be 55 next month, and I’ve noticed lately how my food just does not taste as good as it used to.  And since some of my much older friends have also complained of the same thing, I began to wonder if our taste buds change as we age.  So I did some research, and here are a few things that I learned.

According to the Web site of Everyday Health, the older we are, the fewer taste buds we have.  We are born with 10,000 taste buds, but after we turn 50, that number starts to gradually decrease.  Another reason our taste decreases with age is that we produce less saliva which makes our mouth drier.  A dry mouth makes food harder to swallow, which in turn, makes eating food less enjoyable.

We have four taste sensations–sweet, salty, sour, and bitter–and sweet and salty are usually the first to go, which can cause us to over-salt our food, thereby jacking up our blood pressure.  If you are losing your sense of taste, it is recommended that you first check with your doctor to rule out medical conditions which could be contributing factors.  The site also gives some tips for making meals more enjoyable.

Well, that’s it on this subject.  I have no idea what I’ll write about next, but I’m sure my body will tell me :).

Have a good night.  As always, this is from my heart to yours.
