OUTFOXING THE CARDINALS

BIRD SEED (NEW & EATEN).jpgI just had to share this! I finally figured out a way to outfox the cardinals. You know how I’ve been trying for weeks to get some pictures of the handsome and beautiful Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal who feed regularly everyday at my feeder? Well, this morning, I had to refill the feeder. I found a small chunk of leftover seeds that had fallen to the ground, so I put it on the porch rail right in front of my glass storm door. Also, I placed the refilled feeder beside the chunk of seeds.

Sure enough, I peeked outside my office window and saw Mr. Cardinal eating away. However, as soon as I tiptoed into the living room and grabbed my camera, he flew off! But I know he’ll be back, and I am determined to get my picture.

One day last week, I was sitting on the sofa talking on my cell phone to one of my sisters. Mr. Cardinal came up and just plopped himself on the porch rail directly in front of the door. He stayed there a long time, but I was so busy talking that it did not dawn on me to grab my camera which was right there on a table in front of me, aim it, zoom in, and get a close up of him. By the time I thought of it and picked up my camera, he flew away! I imagined him the whole while I was sitting there talking with my sister, heckling at me and saying, “Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, you can’t catch me!” And then when he saw me grab my camera, laughing as he high-tailed it out of there. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I know y’all think I’m crazy, but that’s okay. Life is what we make it, and enjoying God’s awesome natural creation is one of my ways of making the most of it.

Until next time, this is from my heart ❀ to yours ❀ !

FILL ‘ER UP

My birds are really loving their seed! This morning when I got up, the feeder was empty, and I had to fill ‘er up. I love to use these little, round cakes of seed. I purchase mine at Walmart, well, because Walmart’s my store. πŸ™‚ That’s where I got my feeder from, too. Anyway, each cake comes with a hole already in it, so all I have to do is unwrap them and load them onto the feeder. Cool, huh? πŸ™‚

My cute, little tufted titmouse has become one of my best friends. It comes everyday to eat from the feeder and will even stick around long enough for me to take several photographs of it.

On the other hand, the beautiful, brilliant red cardinal that also comes by everyday to feed is like a speeding bullet and a streak of lightning. As soon as I try to steal some pictures, it takes off! But I’m determined not to give up in my quest, and when I do, I’ll be sure to share my treasures here and in some of my online stores.

As always, this is from my heart ❀ to yours ❀ !

PARENTS JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND, OR MAYBE THEY DO

Young ones, do you often feel that your parents just don’t understand you? In my first young adult novel, LIFE AFTER MOMMA, that’s exactly how Kiara feels about her dad. It’s a normal and natural thing to want to be understood–even older ones have that desire–and it can be extremely frustrating when the things that you love and feel are important just don’t seem to matter to anyone else, especially the people who gave you life and should know and understand you better than anyone else on the planet.

Parents, do you sometimes feel that your children view you as their #1 enemy? Every time you zig, they zag, and conditions at home just aren’t as peaceful as when they were younger and you still had some control over them? Instead of loosening your grip gradually, you continue to hold on for dear life because you’re afraid of all that might go wrong if you allow them even the smallest measure of freedom and independence?

Well, the next time there’s a disagreement between you, do you think it would help you to understand each other better if you took the time to sit down and talk? Not ranting, raving, yelling, and screaming but calm, respectful communication.

Parents, reflect on what it’s like to be young. And young ones, try to remember that your parents were once young, too–and maybe they do understand because they’ve been where you are now.
