Have you ever heard of a Mutzu? I had not until recently when a friend and I visited a roadside market in an area near where we live. The Mutzu (Mutsu) apple is a cross between the Golden Delicious and the Indo apples. It is also know as Crispin and originated in Japan in 1948. I don’t know what an Indo apple tastes like, but in my opinion, the Mutzu’s tartness reminds me of a Granny Smith. However you personally view the taste, it is indescribably delicious! The variation of sweet and tart will have your mouth thanking you for the incredible explosion of savory flavors.
The next time I eat one, I hope to have some warm caramel sauce to drizzle over it. Yum, doesn’t that just make your mouth water? 🙂
