LIVING IN FEAR OF THE PERSON YOU LOVE

WOMAN SCAREDDomestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone.  Although (as the WebCHILD SCARED site of HelpGuide.org points out) women are more commonly victimized, men are also abused–especially verbally and emotionally, although sometimes even physically.  And as we all know, even little, innocent children are abused as well.  Regardless of the target or the source, abusive behavior in any shape, form, or fashion is never acceptable because every human is a product of God, and therefore, should be viewed as precious just as each is precious to Him.  (Psalm 72:12-14)

MAN DEPRESSEDWe live in a world that is filled with outright hatred, anger, and violence.  However, violence and abuse, when it is coming from someone you love, is particularly painful and discouraging–because at the end of what may already be an excruciatingly difficult day, when we come home to our loved ones, we expect and crave to enter into our safe haven.  But if the very ones who are supposed to protect us from harm are the ones causing if, where can we turn?

As with any traumatic situation, a strong support system is vital.  In addition to HelpGuide.org, below are links to some other helpful online resources.

Until the time comes when violence is forever eradicated, may we all do our part to help contribute toward peace and harmony to the lives of all but especially toward those to whom it should be our greatest honor and privilege to love and nurture.FAMILY 2

Take care, and have an awesome weekend!  🙂

NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

FAMILY

PURPLE RIBBONThe first murder in history involved family members–brothers.  (Genesis 4:8)  And ever since, mankind has been plagued by all kinds of domestic violence.  Many victims suffer in silence.  Not only is October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Many victims suffer in silence.

In October, 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed.  The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) says that every home should be a safe home.  And rightfully so, for that is the way our Creator originally intended it to be.  So important is it that He sets out principles in His Word regarding how each individual family member is to treat one another.  (Ephesians 5:28, 33; 6:1)  It was not His purpose that families be damaged by problems such as violence or anything else that could harm them.

TTWIn my short story, A HEALING OF THE HEARTS, of the THICKER THAN WATER anthology, Kenya and Zaire’s family have been affected by domestic violence in an extremely tragic way.

Happily, God has promised to one day do away with all badness and make all things new.  (Revelation 21:4 & 5)  Until that time, may we all strive to love our families the way that God instructs us to.

From my heart to yours,

Maxine
