CAPTURING MR. CARDINAL

BIRD (CARDINAL) NF.jpgI did it!!! I finally captured a picture of Mr. Cardinal!!! Yesterday, I moved the feeder to a spot on the porch rail where I can get clear shots from inside the house. Throughout the day today, he kept landing on the opposite rail but never came close to the seed while I was nearby.

Finally, he somehow got past me and got to the seed. I went for my camera, and he took off! Then later on, I could not believe he landed on the rail beside the seed and stayed long enough for me to get his picture!!!

Here he is, and he’s available on products in both my Fine Art America and Pixels online stores.

Next: Mrs. Cardinal!!! πŸ™‚

From my heart ❀ to yours ❀ !

OUTFOXING THE CARDINALS

BIRD SEED (NEW & EATEN).jpgI just had to share this! I finally figured out a way to outfox the cardinals. You know how I’ve been trying for weeks to get some pictures of the handsome and beautiful Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal who feed regularly everyday at my feeder? Well, this morning, I had to refill the feeder. I found a small chunk of leftover seeds that had fallen to the ground, so I put it on the porch rail right in front of my glass storm door. Also, I placed the refilled feeder beside the chunk of seeds.

Sure enough, I peeked outside my office window and saw Mr. Cardinal eating away. However, as soon as I tiptoed into the living room and grabbed my camera, he flew off! But I know he’ll be back, and I am determined to get my picture.

One day last week, I was sitting on the sofa talking on my cell phone to one of my sisters. Mr. Cardinal came up and just plopped himself on the porch rail directly in front of the door. He stayed there a long time, but I was so busy talking that it did not dawn on me to grab my camera which was right there on a table in front of me, aim it, zoom in, and get a close up of him. By the time I thought of it and picked up my camera, he flew away! I imagined him the whole while I was sitting there talking with my sister, heckling at me and saying, “Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, you can’t catch me!” And then when he saw me grab my camera, laughing as he high-tailed it out of there. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I know y’all think I’m crazy, but that’s okay. Life is what we make it, and enjoying God’s awesome natural creation is one of my ways of making the most of it.

Until next time, this is from my heart ❀ to yours ❀ !

HEALING PHOTO ART

Scientific studies indicate that art heals by changing a person’s physiology and attitude. Physiology changes from one of stress to one of deep relaxation. Perceptions of the world are immediately changed from darkness and despair to hope and jubilation.

The Foundation for Photo/Art in Hospitals is an organization founded by Elaine Poggi. I recently had the wonderful pleasure of meeting her via the Internet during my research of children’s hospitals to whom I was seeking to donate some of my nature art. I e-mailed her, and right away, she responded back. Well, to give you the short version, I am now one of the Foundation’s contributing photographers!!! πŸ™‚ Below is a picture of my “Regal Camellia” which has been added to their website. This image is also available on various products in my VIDA, Fine Art America, Pixels, and Zazzle online stores.

CAMELLIAS (WET) 14 (NF).jpg

Please visit the Foundation’s website to learn more about its founder Ms. Poggi and her extremely worthy cause. You can also show support for her organization through Amazon when you make purchases. If you buy items on amazon.com, please consider using smile.amazon.com/ch/76-0720368 which is the same as Amazon, except that it donates 0.5% of the price of your purchases to The Foundation for Photo/Art in Hospitals! Just click on the link and choose the Foundation. Then shop always from smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com. The Foundation is receiving more than $200.00 a year from Amazon, and if more people do this, they will be able to fund a whole photo project in a hospital very soon. Please help spread the word about this among your friends and family.

As always, this is from my heart ❀ to yours ❀ !

CHICKADEE

BIRD (CHICKADEE) NF.jpgMeet my cute, little chickadee that feeds at my feeder daily! It is now available on several awesome products in both my Fine Art America and Pixels online stores.

This morning when I opened the living room blinds, I caught sight of it at the feeder eating breakfast. As quietly and carefully as I attempted to unlock and open the front door to steal a picture, by the time I got it open, the little cutie had flown away. But it’ll be back! This is one of several pictures it let me snap yesterday. πŸ™‚

And below are just a couple of the beautiful products available in my stores, a duvet cover and a weekender tote bag.

The watermarks “Nature’s Finest by Maxine Billings” and “Fine Art America” will not appear on products ordered.

MR. & MRS. CARDINAL

BIRD (MALE CARDINAL) WIKIPEDIA.jpgEveryday, Mr. Cardinal stops by several times throughout the day to feed at my feeder. He is so handsome in his red coat of feathers! I usually catch him at the feeder, on the shepherd’s hook, or on the porch railing. I keep a chair in front of the glass storm door and my camera on an end table in the living room. Whenever I spot him, I grab my camera. As soon as I start to tiptoe toward the door, he immediately takes off. He does it every time I try to sneak his picture. As I mentioned in an earlier post, he’s quicker than a speeding bullet and a streak of lightning!

Yesterday, he brought Mrs. Cardinal with him.BIRD (FEMALE CARDINAL) WIKIPEDIA.jpgShe is very beautiful in her brown and red coat of feathers! I can see why he married her. πŸ™‚ The two of them were side by side on the porch railing right by the door, so I could see them very clearly.Β  As usual, I grabbed my camera and started to quietly tiptoe toward the door. But I don’t have to tell you what happened, do I? Yep, you got it! Both of them hastily took off together.

No, these aren’t pictures of them. 😦 I wish they were. These photos are courtesy of Wikipedia. However, I am still determined to get their pictures with my camera. If anyone can help me to succeed in doing so, please feel free to share your ideas with me because I am a desperate photographer trying to get at least one really nice closeup of this beautiful couple together (and at the rate I’m going, I’ll even settle for one of them.) πŸ™‚

WINGED BEAUTIES

As you can see, my birds are really enjoying the seed I put out for them. And here is one of the winged beauties now that constantly feeds at the feeder. Isn’t it just so cute!!! πŸ™‚ It’s a tufted titmouse, a small songbird from North America. It is a species in the tit and chickadee family.

BIRD (TITMOUSE) 11 (NF).jpg

I gain so much joy and pleasure from photographing God’s awesome natural creation, and since becoming a nature photographer, I am now more observant of it than I have ever been in my entire life! Imagine how much pleasure Adam must have gained from observing the animals and giving each one its name! (Gen. 2:19 & 20) What a wonderful and loving Creator we have!!!
